Indra's seat is made of woven recycled paper, which is not only environmentally friendly, but also offers a fascinating texture and look. Despite its delicate appearance, the stool can support a load of up to 90kg, making it both practical and robust.
Main material: Trembesi (rain tree wood)
Trembesi is also known as rain tree and can be found widely scattered throughout Southeast Asia, where it often grows along roads or in parks. As the tree originally comes from South America, no rainforest has to be cut down in Indonesia to obtain the wood: The fast-growing tree is usually found in urban areas, where it has been planted by humans for ornamental purposes. To limit its growth, the sprawling branches are regularly cut off and the wood is used for furniture production. Our Trembesi comes from East Java. The wood is relatively similar in colour and structure to teak, but has a significantly better sustainability balance.
Other material: Recycled paper
Production location: This stool is handmade in Java, Indonesia
When selecting our local producers, we prioritise fair payment and good working conditions. Only experienced artisans of legal age work in the factories from which we source our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. As all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.
