Unsere Produkte sind kunstvoll hergestellte Einzelstücke. Aufgrund der Fertigung von Hand und natürlicher Variationen der Materialien können sie in Größe, Farbe und Form leicht voneinander abweichen.

Bewusst wurde auf eine Lackierung der Bank verzichtet, um die natürliche Farbe des Holzes und seine kleinen Unvollkommenheiten zu betonen. Das Ergebnis ist ein Möbelstück, das deinem Raum nicht nur eine natürliche Eleganz verleiht, sondern auch praktisch ist. Sungai ist nämlich vielseitig einsetzbar: Stell sie vor dein Bett, in den Flur oder wo auch immer du eine Sitzgelegenheit benötigst. Sie hilft dir und deiner Familie beispielsweise beim Schuhe anziehen, kann aber auch als außergewöhnliche Ablage oder Beistelltisch genutzt werden.

Die Sitzflächen unserer Bänke werden aus Pflanzenfasern hergestellt. Sie riechen deshalb wunderbar nach Natur und sie fühlen sich auch so an.

Hauptmaterial: Seegras

Das, was von den Korbmachern meist als “Seegras” bezeichnet wird, ist eigentlich keine (Unter-)Wasserpflanze, sondern ein kleines, palmenartiges Gewächs, das an Sandstränden in den Tropen Asiens weit verbreitet ist. Die Blätter der oft vom Menschen kultivierten Pflanzen werden abgetrennt, in Streifen geschnitten, getrocknet und dann von Hand weiterverarbeitet.

Bei der Auswahl unserer Produzenten vor Ort legen wir Wert auf faire Bezahlung und gute Arbeitsbedingungen. In den Betrieben, von denen wir unsere Ware beziehen, arbeiten ausschließlich volljährige und erfahrene Kunsthandwerker. Bei der Herstellung wird auf gesundheitsschädliche Chemikalien gänzlich verzichtet. Da sämtliche Arbeitsschritte von Hand erledigt werden, werden durch den Produktionsprozess kaum Treibhausgasemissionen erzeugt. All dies stellen wir durch regelmäßige Besuche vor Ort und dauerhaften persönlichen Kontakt zu den Betrieben sicher.

SUNGAI - Seagrass bench

The compact Sungai bench derives its timeless beauty from its simple design and the use of high-quality natural materials. Its seat is woven from robust seagrass that can withstand heavy loads, while its frame is made from leftover teak tree branches that are otherwise not used in furniture production. This creates its charming appearance with the irregularly shaped legs and cross struts, which represent a sustainable alternative to other woods.

We deliberately chose not to varnish the bench in order to emphasise the natural colour of the wood and its small imperfections. The result is a piece of furniture that not only gives your room a natural elegance, but is also practical. Sungai is versatile: place it in front of your bed, in the hallway or wherever you need a seat. It helps you and your family to put on your shoes, for example, but can also be used as an unusual shelf or side table.

The seats of our benches are made from plant fibres. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.

Main material: Seagrass

What basket makers usually call "seagrass" is not actually a (sub)aquatic plant, but a small, palm-like plant that is widespread on sandy beaches in the tropics of Asia. The leaves of the plants, which are often cultivated by humans, are separated, cut into strips, dried and then processed by hand.

When selecting our local producers, we prioritise fair payment and good working conditions. Only experienced artisans of legal age work in the factories from which we source our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. As all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.
