The second Splendido book is the logical continuation and further development of our debut work, which won the German Cookbook Award in Silver and Gold.
Anyone familiar with Splendido knows that the most important ingredient for a good meal is quality. The better the products used, the shorter the list of ingredients. Good food speaks for itself so impressively that any additional accompaniment distracts rather than complements it.
In this book, we therefore focus even more on the aspect of product knowledge of Italian produce. Whether vegetables, herbs, cheese or fats, Italian cuisine is the master of product quality, biodiversity and maximum simplicity with maximum creativity. It works best where the uncompromisingly high-quality basic product is allowed to be the star.
Our second SPLENDIDO cookbook follows the dramaturgy of shopping in a good grocery store. From basic products such as butter, olive oil and Parmigiano Reggiano to fresh vegetables, citrus fruits, ham, bacon and condiments, we explain in a carefully researched and well-founded manner what is important when shopping for good products, which specialities there are to discover and get to know, how to recognise them and what you can do with them.

That's why the book's 30 chapters naturally also include recipes, and lots of them: this time, we've once again collected over 90 suitable recipes in the tried-and-tested Splendido style – without exact quantities, but full of important tips and tricks to help you succeed. Just like in our first book, there are some classics, but also instructions (homemade cream cheese, homemade pasta, homemade sweets) and numerous previously unpublished recipes. As always, most of them are vegetarian.
As in our first book, the texts and recipes are complemented by photos from our many trips through Italy and, for the first time, from good food.
Anyone who liked our first book and who, like us, has always felt an inner need to understand Italian cuisine and its specialities more deeply will love this book. It is a passionate collection of large and small delicacies, packed with information from the Splendido kitchen and the vast knowledge of chefs, producers and experts.
